DON JUAN OR THE STONE FEAST

The play, without overlooking the myth of the womanizer, tells the story of Don Juan beyond the historical context of the hypocrisy and debauchery of the 17th century French court that Moliere criticizes. The central hero, highly charming in his "unconventionality", determined not by nature but by position, moves in the socio-political environment making the most of the privileges of his class. Refusing to accept the nexus of rules and behaviors imposed by current social morality, it ultimately functions as a nihilistic force that, instead of metamorphosing into a regenerative revolutionary drive, ends up in an individualistic destructive rampage.

The performance is the first directorial effort of Christos Sougaris, who as an actor has collaborated for a number of years with most Greek directors - mainly in National Theatre of Northern Greece performances. He has been assistant director in performances by Yiannis Rigas and Nikos Charalambous, while for the last six years he has been working steadily with Stathis Livathinos, for whom he was also assistant director in Shakespeare's "King Lear".
